New control cameras for Formentera.eco

The Office of Mobility of the Consell de Formentera reports that the Formentera.eco project, now in its fifth year, has enhanced controls with new cameras to check that vehicles driven on the island are duly accredited. Specifically, two new license plate-reading cameras have been installed on the Sant Ferran roads of Avinguda de Joan Castelló Guasch and Carrer Universitat (the ring road).

These control cameras are in addition to those installed last year at the roundabout near the Hospital and those in place on Carrer d'Almadrava in La Savina since the regulatory scheme took effect. The cameras have been installed at the entrance and exit of the port of La Savina and in places of high vehicle traffic. The Consell also has a fully electric vehicle equipped with two cameras which will travel the island, including secondary roads, with the same objective. All of these cameras read the license plates of vehicles in motion and check if they have the associated clearance under Formentera.eco.

By law, operating a vehicle without the required clearance is punishable by minimum fines of €1,000.
