Council requests financing by the Govern for the demolition of of “Ca ses Castellones”

castellona web

The Formentera Island Council will raise a proposal at the plenary session of April beseeching the Govern Balear to sign a convention to finance the demolition of the three buildings promoted by the Plaça de Sant Ferran SL company and executed at the end of 2012.

The proposal comes motivated by a similar case in Mallorca, in which an accord was signed between the Govern and the town council of Campos for the funding of the Ses Covetes tourist complex demolition. The agreement established the regional autonomic government's contribution as 75% of the demolition project's total budget and also established the provision of land, healthcare and safety and waste management by the government.

In March of 2012, the regional autonomic government's counsellor of the Office of Urbanism and Territory opened proceedings with the Agència de Protecció de la legalitat urbanística de Mallorca (Protective body of the urban and territorial legality of Mallorca) and, after a period of two weeks, the collaborative agreement had been approved between the two administrations. As part of the accord, the Balearic Government had to provide the Agència de Protecció a sum equivalent to three quarters of project's costs and the town council of Campos the remaining costs of demolition. The Ses Covetes demolition was executed by Tragsa over the course of two months.

For this reason, the Council of Formentera will use the April plenary session to implore the government of the Balearic Islands to sign the necessary accords allowing for a 75% financing of the Ca ses Castellones demolition project – a sum of 83,038.77€ – as was done with the Campos town council on the island of Mallorca.

It is important to remember that the demolition of the Sant Ferran commercial buildings brought conclusion to the 4 February 2009 judicial ruling that called for a return to the conditions that had existed before the construction project – protected by a license that was later voided – was effectuated.

The Formentera Council has had to assume Ca ses Castellones building demolition costs in their entirety. It is, however, he Autonomous Community's responsibility to ensure the equality of all island territories and uphold the precedent established by the case of Mallorca's Agència de Protecció.
