The Formentera Island Council's contracting committee awarded a contract today for operation of the café-bar at the Antoni Blanc Sports Centre, as well as for the food and non-alcoholic beverage vending machines located in the same area.

The service will shortly be made available to members of the sports centre, thus improving the services provided the residents of the island.

The new café-bar was conferred to Francisco Ferrer Juan, under the accord of the Government Commission to award contracts by public bidding and standard procedure to the most economical bid.

Ferrer Juan committed to providing services for a yearly sum of 4,600€ and to maintaining hours of operation from Monday to Friday, 8:15 am to 11 am and 1:30 pm to 12 midnight. Saturdays and Sundays the café will open for the length of competitions, with a minimum length of 2 hours.

As for the menu to be offered, Ferrer Juan has presented a proposal based on a variety of meal combinations, dishes, as well as special dishes for athletes.

Since the Antoni Blanc Sports Centre opened its doors in February of last year, it has been extremely well-received by island residents. More than one thousand locals have joined as members, with an additional 400, approximately, who regularly train at the centre's facilities. The building of the centre has marked a qualitative change to the sports offering on the island.

The Office of Sport works on a daily basis to increase and improve services provided by the centre and its offering of available sports. The promotion, on Formentera, of sport and the values it represents are one of the priorities of the Council.
