The president of the Formentera Island Council, Jaume Ferrer, together with councilor of Education and Culture Sònia Cardona and vice president Santi Juan, received the new rector of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) this morning in Formentera. Dr. Llorenç Huguet, since 17 June occupying a post which is roughly equivalent to that of a university president, made today what has been his first institutional visit to the island since his appointment.

Accompanying him on his visit were the members of the UIB's governing board Dr. David Pons, vice rector of Economy and Infrastructure, Dr. Maria Antònia Fornés, vice rector of Culture, Outreach and Satellite Campuses and Antònia Fullana, manager of the UIB.

Taking advantage of the group's visit, a meeting was held between councilors and those present from the UIB administration, upon conclusion of which a visit was made to the UIB's new Formentera classroom. The classroom will be available to UIB-Eivissa students for a variety of uses, including: tutorial class hours, participation in the on-line adults' programme and video conferences. Over the course of the day, in fact, Formentera's councilor of Culture and the UIB vice rector of Culture held several conversations regarding the possibility of starting educational activities at the Formentera site this September.

The Council of Formentera is extremely satisfied to be able to present its residents with this kind of educational opportunity. The Formentera classroom will provide locally-based UIB students a physical space with a number of different educational tools, thus facilitating greatly the successful completion of studies.
