Exhibition “Villangómez, fotògraf”

villangomez4

Until 31 January the Exhibition Hall of the Old Town Hall will house the collection of the “Villangómez, fotògraf” exhibition. The exhibition, put together by the Arxiu Històric d'Eivissa (AHE), sponsored by the Ajuntament d'Eivissa (Eivissa Town Council) and containing material provided by the Formentera Council for the occasion of the Year of Villangómez closing ceremonies, combines the author's own verses and photos from Eivissa in his lifetime.

The opening held 13 January coincided with the date of Villangómez's birth, and closed out a year of activities, concerts, theatrical productions and expositions created around the memory of the popular Pitiüsa writer. An important feature of the year-long programming was a Ràdioilla campaign organised by the Formentera Council, “Any Villangómez, 365 poemes”. The campaign put Formentera residents in front of the Ràdioilla studio microphone and asked them to lend their voice to one of the artist's works of poetry or prose, one resident, one text per day.

Another activity that was quite successful was the group exhibition launched by Formentera artists using the Villangómez body of work. The collectively-organised “Marià Villangómez i Formentera” was on display throughout the months of July and August in the Old Council Exhibition Hall. In addition to these two activities, the Formentera Island Council, member of the Comissió Any Villangómez, collaborated on another milestone: the publication in one combined body of work, the complete poetry of Marià Villangómez.

Natural landscapes and gastronomy also played a part this year reviving the Pitiüsa writer's legacy. Espai Frumentària organised daytrips across sites of particular natural beauty in which participants took part in poetic readings of Villangómez's work and on two instances in additional wine-pairing activities. The outings were the perfect means to combine poetry, wine and music.

Finally, one of Villangómez's most renowned dramatic works, Després de pondre's sa lluna (After the moon sets), was represented in both Formentera and Eivissa by the island's own S'Esglai theatre troupe. The “Villangómez, fotògraf” exhibition is open for public visit Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
