Certificates of completion for 11 participants of Formentera Civil Protection volunteer training

diplomesThis afternoon at the seat of the Formentera Council, 11 diplomas were received by the island's local civil protection group, L'Agrupació de Protecció Civil de Formentera. Delivered by the Govern Balear's councillor of Public Administrations, Núria Riera, the certificates bore the names of those individuals who had successfully completed a course in basic volunteerism and civil protection that was organised by the Escola Balear d'Administracions Públiques at the behest of the Council.

The last time the course had been offered in Formentera was in 2009. Attesting to the acquisition of a series of techniques in first aid, the document accredits an individual's ability to serve as a member of Protecció Civil de Formentera.

Before the certificates were handed out, the seat of the Council also hosted a meeting between Protecció Civil members, the Formentera Council, councillor Riera and José Manuel Alcaraz, the Govern's proxy in Formentera.

The meeting served to inform attendees of new government subsidies available for volunteer civil protection groups, assistance to which Formentera has recently availed in hopes of improving local systems of communication.

In July of last year, Protecció Civil de Formentera received the Council's Sant Jaume Award in recognition of the vital work the group provides in terms of emergency response and special events organisation. Pep Ferrer, head of the group's chapter in Formentera, informed that the volunteer roster on the island includes 40 active members.
