Children's Literary Prize "Robert Lewis Baldon"

The department of Culture in collaboration with the Friends of the International Library Association of Formentera announces the award as part of the festival of Sant Jordi, 23 April, to encourage work of literary creation and encouraging the reading habit among the child population of Formentera. The writings, every year deal with a different theme drawing actual social and environmental topics.

Biography:
American architect, Robert Lewis Baldon, popularly known as Bob Baldon came to Formentera to recover from a serious motorcycle accident. At home, since 1967 began to collect books and books that everyone could see. First it was called the "House of Books." Then this space became the International Library of Formentera. Anyone who wanted to read books of different languages in Formentera had here its small, and apparently disordered eating. Famous people such as Nina Hagen, Bob Dylan, Chis Rea, Pete Sinfield (King Crimson) visited this library.

Robert Baldon and Formentera:

Bob Baldon gave this background to the City of Formentera before his death. These 27,000 books published in a dozen languages that had been stored for years, are publicly available at the Marià Villangómez library as an international background for readers from the island since 2008.


Conditions of Entry:
- Participation in the contest is completely free for schools on the island of Formentera from first to sixth grade
- Each participant may submit one original proposal and unpublished. The works consist of a maximum of three pages handwritten or typed.
- The award consists of six categories.
- Participants must indicate on the front of one of the pages: name, phone number, address and category to which it is presented.
- The annual prize, not be declared void, and the provision lies with the author and consist of books.
- The finalists will be exhibited at the library. And once set will be returned to their authors.
