Building plans OK'd for farmers' cooperative depot

paisatgerural2014At a session held last Friday, 10 October, the government commission of the Formentera Council granted initial approval to a plan put forth by councillor of agriculture Santiago Juan for an industrial space for the Cooperativa del Camp a Formentera, a cooperative of local farmers on the island.

The construction project – whose estimated cost is 417,772€ – was drafted by engineer of roads, canals and ports Xavier Pallejà. Currently posted on both the Formentera Council and the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) website, Pallejà's plan will be submitted to public review for a period of 15 days.

Creation of the warehouse space is part of the Formentera office of agriculture's rural renewal project. In the works for some time now, recent evolution of the project has included the fusion last summer of different local farming groups into one single collective and, more recently, acquisition of the land parcels that will constitute the future site of the industrial space.
