Defining strategy for 2014-2020 Leader programme

Leader 14101414 and 15 October, Formentera residents employed in agriculture will take part in defining the local development strategy of the Leader programme 2014-2020, whose goal it is to promote rural area and agricultural renewal projects.

Participants will work to analyse the current state of agriculture and territorial planning and formulate proposals for plans of action. They hold positions within an array of different local groups and associations and represent: stock ranchers, young agricultural workers, members of the Formentera farmers' cooperative, garden workers, representatives of local vineyards, friendly associations to the island's indigenous fauna, hunters, beekeepers, organic farms, representatives of the Ornithological Association of the Balearic Islands and different organisations within the agricultural section of the local associative council (Consell d'Entitats).

The local action group of Eivissa and Formentera – whose vice president Santi Juan is also Formentera's councillor of agriculture – invests 189,040€ in five different local projects: the creation of a database permitting rapid-localisation of rural Formentera homes; the technological refitting of the Formentera Image and Sound Archive; the restoration the Es Marès, Es Verro, Ses Rates and Illetes wells; and finally, two projects at the Sant Francesc-located Centre Gabrielet. One to obtain industrial refrigerators for use at the local farmers' market – hosted at Gabrielet –, and another to acquire materials for the organisation of artistic and cultural events.
