lasavina1 web

Before year-end the Formentera Island Council and aqualia – the concession-holding company for the administration of water on Formentera – will execute an improvement plan for the island's hydraulic network. The plan will include different elements, all of which are aimed at improving the potable water supply and sewage networks and assuring the continued functioning of the service.

The first element of the plan is set to begin next Monday, 20 May, and will consist in the upgrading of 25 metres of drainage equipment at the intersection of Carrer Ponent and Avinguda Mediterrània, in La Savina. As a result, traffic will be redirected during the week that construction is scheduled to take place.

The changes will represent a significant improvement to service quality and will simultaneously reduce interferences caused by continuous maintenance in the area.

Moreover, before the arrival of summer the aqualia company will execute three additional, urgent construction projects also included in the Pla de Millora 2013 (2013 Improvement Plan):
-the reparation of 50 metres of the Es Pujols drainage network, currently damaged and the source of recent problems;
-improved access for heavy-load vehicles entering the Es Pujols deposit;
-and the closure of the Es Pujols deposit, bringing the island in line with sanitary regulations.

After summer and beginning in October, hydraulic-network improvement-plan activity will continue. The anticipated elements include:

-Upgrading 1,200 metres of water-supply pipe to Ca Marí
-Installation of two pump stations and upgrading of the drainage network at Carrer Ponent -Access improvements to the interior of the Ca Marí deposit to allow for maintenance and inspection
-Upgrading the potable-water installation at Carrers Major and Atzaró.

In total, the projects included in the 2013 Improvement Plan, intended to guarantee correct functioning of the Formentera Municipal Water Services, have a cost of 462,506.93€. They mark a continuation of the 2012 improvement projects, which included – among other activity – upgrading one of the compartments of the Es Pujols deposit.
