XI Beni Trutmann Photo Contest exhibition opening and award ceremony

premibn2013 web

This year marked the Beni Trutmann Photo Contest's eleventh call for participants, and it was answered by 42 individuals presenting a total of 113 photos in black & white and in colour. Of this number, 50 were selected to comprise the exhibition at the Exhibition Hall of the Old Town Council. The exhibition will open next Monday, 29 April, and will remain open to the public until 11 May, Monday to Saturday from 11 am to 2 pm.

Prizes will be awarded for the two categories on Monday at 8 pm, in a ceremony set to coincide with the inauguration of the exhibition.

The competition has established itself as one of the most highly-anticipated of its kind in Formentera, open to photos highlighting any facet of the island's natural scenery, from landscapes, to fauna and vegetation, or even human interaction with nature. Each contribution stands as a sign of commitment to nature and defence of the environment.

The winning photos were selected by a jury composed of a representative from GOB de Formentera, a representative from Balearic Cultural Works and individuals of recognised experience in the visual arts. The jury was also presided over by a representative from the Formentera Island Council.

This year, once panel deliberations drew to a close and unanimous decisions were reached, it was decided that three awards would be accorded in the black & white category, while in the category of colour photos, after great deliberation, it was decided that only the award for first place would be awarded, while second and third places would be declared void.

With the annual concourse that bears its founder's name, the Formentera Council wishes to keep the memory of Trutmann alive by creating this opportunity for photography aficionados to take an active interest in the field and to become familiar with the example left us by one of Formentera's greatest photographers.

In its eleven years of history, the Beni Trutmann Photo Contest has encouraged participation by the local population and amassed a photo archive that is extremely valuable for the Council. Content of the archives may be used for non-profit purposes in any graphical work the Formentera Council deems appropriate (posters, signs, Internet, etc.) to the promotion of Formentera and its different tourist spots.

The Beni Trutmann Photo Exhibition is an event of great reference on Formentera, with the participation of people from all over Spain (including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Lugo and Saragossa) and international locations as well, previous years even seeing participation by Switzerland and Germany.
