Formentera hails improved July occupancy rates compared to last year's figures

oficina turisme SFThe Formentera Island Council Office of Tourism has announced figures for tourist occupancy rates from the month of July 2014. The occupancy indicator for that period, according to data from the Ibiza and Formentera Hotel Business Federation, was 91.83%.

This marked an improvement upon last year's rate – also heralded at the time – of 88.85%. Two years ago, in 2012, occupancy was 86.40%.

In June of this year, the Federation signalled a rate of 82.31% – a half-point up from the number in 2013 (81.85%) and a full eight points higher than occupancy in 2012 (73.97%).

At the beginning of the 2014 season, in May, the indicator was 45.35% – already showing increases compared to that same month in 2013 (37.89%) and in 2012 (33.32%).

Tourism councillor Ferrer commented that “the progression witnessed in July is extremely positive. [Occupancy] has risen for the second year running. We are now approaching the kind of figures witnessed in 2011, a historic year.”

In Ferrer's estimation, “the fact that the tourist occupancy rate during the last three months has been higher than occupancy during those same months in 2013 is significant. However, before we start speaking about a positive year we'll need to wait and see how the post-season months like October progress. We certainly hope to see continued growth.”
