Trainees successfully completed a selection process aimed at creating a pool of qualified firefighter applicants.

The Councillor of Interior, Josep Marí, explained that "when training is complete, the Consell de Formentera will have a pool of firefighters to fill future vacancies more quickly and with qualified personnel". The 105-hour course will run from 13 to 29 October and constitutes the minimum training to become a firefighter on Formentera.

Training will combine theory-based and hands-on aspects of firefighter response to forest fires, urban fires, traffic accidents, work at heights, vertical rescues, tree-cutting, emergency shoring, first aid, use of semi-automatic defibrillator, CPR and correct handling of tools.

The course will be offered by the company EMERGENCY STAFF, and carried a total price-tag of €22,500. The Formentera fire brigade comprises ten professional firefighters and one collaborating firefighter.
