Lifeguard service resumes on Formentera beaches from Sunday

foto 2022 practiques socorristesThe Formentera Office of Interior is pleased to report that Sunday 1 May will mark the start of a new season of lifeguard service on local beaches. The service extends from 1 May to 31 October and is funded by the administration.

Ten lifeguards and the service coordinator will take to their stations from tomorrow and another 15 will join the ranks at the start of June. The full crew, 26 staff in all, remains on duty until 30 September, shrinking back down to 11 in October.

Refresher course

Interior councillor Josep Marí reported that this week lifeguards had taken part in annual refresher courses on rescue techniques and preparedness around some of the most common on-the-job duties like reanimation.

In the low-season months of May and October, lifeguards patrol Ses Illetes, Llevant and Arenals. From June to September, service expands to cover El Pas des Trucadors, El Tanga, Es Pujols, Cala Saona and Es Caló.

Adapted and 'heart-safe' beaches

The service is available 12 noon to 5.00pm (green flag hours); at Es Arenals, from May to October and at Es Pujols, from June to September (both inclusive).

Defibrilators are available everywhere lifeguard services are offered in case of cardiac arrest.
