Yesterday marked the final day of the 17th Social and Cultural Integration Course, organised by the immigration department of Formentera Office of Social Welfare. Eleven students from countries such as Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, Morocco and Senegal received their diplomas from Rafael Ramírez, Councillor of Social Welfare.

The Formentera Office of Social Welfare is inviting active employees of music and dance venues, especially bar staff and managers, to take part in a course it is organising on how to serve alcohol responsibly and reduce associated risks. The course is free and can be taken in two sessions, from 10.00am to 12 noon or from 5.00pm to 7.00pm, in the auditorium of the Consell de Formentera.

The course is one of various actions which build on the Consell de Formentera's campaign 'No t'ofeguis a l'alcohol' [Don't Drown in Alcohol] with collaboration from Fundación Salud y Comunidad, the small and medium-sized business association (Pimef), the Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Federation of Formentera.
 
The course aims to give participants key tips to promote safer music and dance spaces and to increase the sense of well-being among people there. The targeted training also seeks to familiarise participants with the different types of drugs and substances often found in music and dance spaces; help them to identify and correctly anticipate risk situations and stop them from becoming problematic; train them to become points of reference in the transmission of values, information and preventive tools on questions of health, and to correctly apply preventive guidelines on drug use, violent behaviour and the responsible dispensing of alcohol.

Participants must be 18 or over at the time of the course and must register by 4 April by emailing educaciosocial@conselldeformentera.cat and indicating their full name, telephone number and preferred time of training.

The Formentera Office of Social Welfare will host two lectures with the social educator Marina Marroquí on 31 March. The first, at 11.30am in the Sala de Cultura (Cinema), is 'That's not Love', a monologue/workshop aimed at training pupils in years three and up at Marc Ferrer Secondary School (IES Marc Ferrer) to spot and prevent gender violence.

Marina Marroquí will offer a humourous stock-taking of music, television, adverts and cinema and try to instil youth with an understanding of critical thinking and how we internalise romantic love in ways which are toxic. After that, she will tell her own story of gender violence –including how she relapsed, realised what was happening, got out and got through it– and shares insight about some of the early warning signs of gender violence.

Talk for families

The second talk on 31 March, part of the cycle Talks for Families (Xerrades per a Famílies), is entitled 'How do I raise my children to prevent them from suffering violence and being violent?'. Childcare will be offered while the talks are being held.

The Formentera Office of Social Welfare (Conselleria de Benestar Social, CBSF) has launched an emotion management programme for schoolchildren aged 3 to 12. These workshops will take place between February and June in three schools on the island: La Mola Primary School, Sant Ferran de ses Roques Primary School and Mestre Lluís Andreu Primary School. CBSF social educators will lead this programme and it will include nine 4- to 5-session workshops for each of the kindergarten and primary education classes. The content of the workshops will be adapted to the particular characteristics of each group.
