Today the Formentera Office of Equality together with the Espai Dones association presented the events organised for 25 November ("25N"), International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The programme starts at 6.00pm, Friday 18 November, with a screening and subsequent discussion of the documentary ¿Qué coño está pasando? at the adult learning centre (Escola d'Adults, CEPA Pitiüses classrooms) next to CEIP Mestre Lluís Andreu.

Through various reflections, the documentary unpacks issues related to gender equality and gender violence, "one of the drivers of inequality that remain deeply rooted today", say the film's directors, Marta Jaenes and Rosa Marquez.

The next activity will be the Formentera Office of Culture-organised "Informe de camarera", an exhibition by Canarian artist Alejandro Robaina Vera. The exhibition opens at 7.00pm, Monday 21 November, at Sala d'Exposicions "Ajuntament Vell". Alejandro Robaina has always maintained close ties with cleaning staff and, through his aunt, mother and cousins, who have worked as hotel cleaning staff, had first-hand knowledge of their conversations, labour struggles, joys and struggles.

25N: radio round table, info stand and rally in the square
At 10.00am, 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women programme will start at Ràdio Illa with a round table where participants include representatives of social spheres, psychology, health, law enforcement and the Formentera Office of Equality. Meanwhile, a "No Means No" (No i Punt) information table will also be set up and posters hung in Plaça de la Constitució. At 5.00pm, a rally will be held in Plaça de la Constitució with readings by female volunteers and a reading of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women manifesto.

The 25N programme will culminate with a 9.00pm screening of the film Solo una vez in the Sala de Cultura (Cinema). An additional screening is scheduled at 8.00pm on 27 November. This Guillermo Ríos Bordón-directed thriller forces viewers to analyse every word and every act to decide whether or not the event in question qualifies as violence.

The local development division of the Formentera Office of Commerce, Entrepreneurship and Equality is pleased to report that three qualified candidates have been recruited for one-year positions as early-childhood educator, equality manager and environmental engineer as part of "SOIB Jove: Qualificats - Entitats Locals 2022", a programme that affords young recent graduates the chance to gain work experience in their specialty in the world of public administration.

This SOIB programme, which has received funding from the European Social Fund (ESF), the Youth Employment Operational Programme 2014-2020, and the Sectoral Conference on Employment and Labour, has a total budget of €203,947.40. Since 2016 the Balearic government has backed this employment initiative that works with local entities to offer training contracts and professional experience to qualified young people.

The Formentera Office of Equality is pleased to present the activities bill for 22 October, International Day of Trans Depathologisation. This year organisers have widened the scope of the programme and, under the banner "Queer October!" (Octubre Queer!), have trained the focus of activities on building healthy, diverse and free relationships that invite us to break with established roles and stereotypes.

Interactive talk: "Viva el amor del bueno", with La Psico Woman, at Sala de Cultura-Cinema, Sant Francesc. Attendees will receive clear tips on disarming male violence and discuss emotions, diverse masculinities, socially constructed models of love, harassment and accepting diversity. Isa Duque is a health psychologist, sexologist and family therapist.

Friday 21 October, 7.30pm
Presentation: 'Fan Fiction and Omegaverse, Editorial Universo Alternativo', with Qoyari Álvarez Miriel, at Marià Villangómez Library. Topics of discussion: minority communities who, lacking representation, created their own queer versions; JK Rowling vs. the trans community and the response of Harry Potter fans.

Saturday 22 October, 8.30pm
'Visual theatre: Imaginaris Monstruosos', with La Lioparda Teatro at Sala de Cultura-Cinema. With an innovative and transgressive air, this production of visual theatre, puppets and prosthetics for young and adult audiences aims to put the margins at the centre.

Sunday 23 October, 4.00pm
'Naufragar: collective fanzine workshop', with Tsunami (L and Natu) at Es Roco in Sant Francesc. The workshop will be a space for collective creation, putting desire and our passions at the fore and inviting reflection on sexuality and identity.

Today Formentera was the scene of the last day of Feminist Classrooms (Aules Feministes), which was attended by Ángela Rodríguez, state secretary for equality; Ana Juan, Consell de Formentera president and councillor of equality; Gloria Santiago, vice-president of the Balearic parliament; Mercedes Garrido, councillor of presidency, public function and equality; Maria Duran i Febrer, director of the Institut Balear de la Dona (Ibdona), as well as the deputy for Formentera, Antonio J. Sanz, the vice president of the Consell, Susana Labrador, and Councillors Vanessa Parellada and Paula Ferrer, among other authorities.

The closing ceremony, held in the Sala de Cultura and presented by President Juan, consisted of a presentation from journalist Montserrat Boix on equality plans in the public media, and a space to share good practices in efforts by public administrations to close the wage gap.

President Juan highlighted "the great social advances women have made in gender equality in recent years with progressive policies, but there is still a long way to go". According to Juan, "we must not lose sight of helping women to develop their life project in equality and that is why it is very important to make this work visible".

This year's Aules Feministes were held under the title "Economics for Equality: The Feminist Agenda". Aules Feministes started in 2020 as a space for reflection on feminism and its transformative power.
