When the Municipal Library of Formentera opened in October 1983 under the direction of the island's Board of Culture, its 1,300-book collection occupied a 36m2 space next to the Sant Francesc church. The catalogue grew to absorb Bob Baldon's Casa del Libro in 1984; the name of that site was changed to the International Library, which Baldon continued operating, though books in Catalan and Spanish were kept at the Municipal Library of Sant Francesc. In 1999, the Municipal Library took up temporary residence at carrer d'Eivissa. On Sant Jordi Day, 23 April 2007, it opened its doors at a new location on carrer de Pius Tur Mayans and with a new name: Marià Villangómez Library.
