Council backs island's elderly care centres with 24k

Under the deals, the Council will provide 24,000 euros in financial support to Formentera's pensioners and elderly residents. The 12-month pacts are aimed at funding the seniors' clubs' day-to-day maintenance, service costs and new programmes on the island in 2016.

Together with chairwoman Margarita Sanchís of Sant Francesc's association of retirees and pensioners, the CiF president signed off on a 9,000-euro funding promise. Another pact, valued at 6,500 euros, was struck with Rita Costa, of the Sant Ferran social centre and centre for the aged. Partnerships were also clinched between the Council and Maria Costa, chair of the la Savina retirees' and pensioners' club (4,500 euros) and Jaume Escandell, chair of la Mola's senior centre (4,000).

Council and Formentera NGO clinch deal to help developing world, raise local awareness

foto conveni formenterers solidaris 2016Jaume Ferrer, president of the Formentera Council, and Maria Costa, chair of NGO Formenterers Solidaris, met today to put their signatures on a deal handing the group Council money to carry out aid projects in developing countries. The deal additionally sets out a plan to raise awareness among Formentera residents in 2016.

The year-long pact is renewable and provides 3,000 euros in funding. Also in attendance at the signing were CiF social welfare councillor Vanessa Parellada and Formenterers Solidaris's secretary, Teresa Costa.

Trasmapi backs social welfare office, promotion costs

rp convenis trasmapiCiF president Jaume Ferrer met earlier today with Trasmapi chair Rafael Cardona to sign off on two bilateral deals between the Council and the transport company. One of the agreements sets out yearly aid for Formentera's Office of Social Welfare. The four thousand euros in assistance will subsidise Formentera-Eivissa travel costs both for at-risk and underprivileged users of the local office and workers within the department.

The other agreement, which was struck with the Office of Tourism and is valid for three years, sets out a yearly sum of 10,000 euros to fund traveller and vehicle costs related to Formentera's tourism campaigns.  Under the agreement, the Formentera Council can use videos and posters on ships along the Eivissa-Formentera route to promote the island as a destination spot.

In addition, Trasmapi agrees to apply a 25% discount on tickets sold to participants of the island's Discover Formentera in May and October campaigns. Also enshrined in the second pact is Trasmapi's commitment to covering costs at the company's Vila office, which carries promotional material about Formentera. Two CiF councillors –Alejandra Ferrer of tourism and Vanessa Parellada of social welfare– were on hand at the signing too.

Council launches info service for Govern's solar power subsidies

The Formentera Council's Office of Environment will launch an information service for residents interested in applying for renewable energy assistance from the Govern Balear. Applications are open to businesses, associations and individuals who wish to receive government money for photovoltaic (solar) energy.

Starting Monday, June 6, the general public can visit or call the CiF's Office of Environment (971321210) for application details.

The Govern Balear has recently announced the availability of two grants. The first, for which the regional government in Palma has earmarked 200,000 euros, is for businesses and business associations that use solar energy for self-supply. The other grant, with similar terms and a 250,000-euro budget, is for individuals and groups of property owners.
