New round of dustings to curb pine processionary

The Consell de Formentera reports that agents of the Balearic Ministry of Environment and Territory's Healthy Forests Service (Servei de Sanitat Forestal, SSF) are in La Mola today to start aerial application of a substance to curb numbers of pine processionary (Thaumetopoea pityocampa). The treatment was extended for the fifth consecutive year at the request of local government and will be applied to an area of approximately 1,600 hectares. SSF crews plan to make two passes of the product on non-consecutive days, with scheduling to depend on meteorological forecasts.
